In 1830, Charles Tanqueray established the distillery in the Bloomsbury district of Tingrith in Bedfordshire. When Charles died in 1868, the company passed into the hands of his heir, Charles Waugh Tanqueray. An air raid in 1941, during World War II, left the distillery in shambles; only one still survived the attack.
